The follow-up to the 2018 big screen adaptation of Tomb Raider has landed a sequel, director and a release date!

Ben Wheatley (Free Fire) will direct the sequel for MGM, which will return star Alicia Vikander as the titular Lara Croft. The studio has marked March 19, 2021, as the release date.

The first film was directed by Roar Uthaug and starred Vikander as the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, who had to push herself beyond her limits when she discovered the island where her father disappeared. So, it is presumed the next film will take place shortly thereafter, where the story will have shifted and Croft has now begun to excavate for treasures around the world, picking up where her father left off.

The 2018 film grossed $275 million, worldwide. No news yet on a cast or when production begins for the sequel, but stay tuned!
