First Look at Borderlands Live-Action Movie Has Dropped
February 27, 2024People magazine has unveiled the initial images from the forthcoming Borderlands movie adaptation featuring a star-studded cast including Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, and others.
One snapshot showcases the entire ensemble cast of characters set to appear in Borderlands, while another zooms in on Blanchett’s portrayal of the iconic Lilith from the video game series.
In the first image, the characters are depicted peering down a hole, featuring Jack Black as Claptrap, Kevin Hart as Roland, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis.
Each character is outfitted in attire reminiscent of their appearances in the Borderlands games, with Krieg donning his signature Psycho mask, Tiny Tina sporting her bunny ears hat, and Lilith sporting her distinctive spiky hair. This adherence to the original designs contrasts with director Eli Roth’s earlier comments suggesting not all elements would be exact replicas of the source material.
Roth explained in an interview with IGN in November 2023, “There are certain things that we kept very, very close… But I really worked with Randy Pitchford (CEO of Gearbox Software), and he goes: ‘Think of it like Marvel, where the comics are their own canon and the movies are their own canon, and you don’t have to be married to it. The games are going to be the games and the movie’s the movie, and if they continue it, great’.”
Further insights and glimpses into the Borderlands film are anticipated in the months leading up to its premiere on August 9, 2024. However, Lionsgate has thus far remained tight-lipped about additional details.
