Jim Shooter Returns in Co-Creating New Series, SLOW CITY BLUES

September 24, 2019 Off By Michael Stagno

An all-new genre-bending series has been announced at Image Comics, Slow City Blues, from Samuel Haine and legendary creator Jim Shooter, which will drop early next year.

The story zeros in on Detective John Loris, who gets trapped inside his own imagination after accidentally killing a little girl in the line of duty. He tries to take his own life, but instead, ends up in Slow City, a construct of his mind’s eye. It’s a place where anything is possible, but a way out is not one of them. Loris is revered in creating this world, but he opts for the gig which he is most comfortable in doing, being a detective. He and his partner, a skunk that stands over 6-feet tall, are off to solve a double homicide to bring the killer to justice before a syndicate war between the Gorillas of the Devil’s Backbone and Dragons of the Midnight destroy themselves and the city.

“This is a dream come true. I would have never imagined, in a million years, that the fantastical world of Slow City Blues, that I came up with while I was slingin’ beers as a bartender, would be brought to life,” said Haine. “It’s a surreal feeling being able to put your very-first comic book out into the world through a publisher as prolific as Image!”

Slow City Blues #1 goes on sale on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020.
