Nostalgic? Tom Cruise is Busy, with Plenty of Sequels in the Works
October 17, 2019If we told you that direct sequels to Risky Business, All the Right Moves, Cocktail and Jerry McGuire, were all en route, would you believe us? Good call. However, if any of these do happen, you heard it here first.
That said, the never-aging action star, who also doubles-up in doing most of his own stunts, has plenty of projects in the works, all of which have peaked our interest!
So, here’s what we do know he’s up to, for sure …
Top Gun: Maverick will serve as the next-in-line to 1986’s Top Gun. Cruise is reprising his role as Maverick, while Val Kilmer is returning as Iceman. The latter followed the then-students at the United States Navy‘s elite fighter weapons school, as they compete to be best in the class.
Mission Impossible 7 is coming in 2021, while Mission Impossible 8 already has a greenlight, with a release date set for 2022. These two films, both to be written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, could possibly be linked as a two-parter for Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character and Co.
Now, for the stories that are lurking in the rumor mill …
There is apparently a script already completed for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow called, Live. Die. Repeat and Repeat, which would bring back Cruise, as Cage, and apparently also return Emily Blunt in her role as Rita. However, because of priorities to the M.I. franchise, this wouldn’t even begin filming till well-after 2022.
There are also rumblings that the Universal Monsters franchise reboot is not yet dead, and he could also reprise his role as Nick Morton in a sequel to the then-rebooted The Mummy or, in a total 360, in a uni-monster team-up film as well.
It has also been recently reported that a third installment in the Jack Reacher franchise could be en route too. The second film, 2016′ Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, left Reacher, aka Cruise, after serving as a fugitive of the law, rides off into the sunset, potentially as he makes his way toward more adventures? We’ll have to wait and see.
Top Gun: Maverick will take off in theaters on June 26, 2020.
