A new dark urban fantasy series at Image Comics has been dubbed a mashup of Breaking Bad and American Gods, per creators Sean Lewis and Caitlin Yarsky in, Bliss.

The upcoming limited series will consist of two arcs, it takes place in Feral City and focuses on a new drug, which is wiping away memories called, Bliss. A good-hearted man, who is overwhelmed by a sick child and distraught wife, makes a deal to become a hitman to three gods. He is tasked with killing those who oppose the gods, sending their memories down the River of Oblivion, in exchange for his family’s well-being and health.

“I grew up seeing people getting addicted to things: drugs, success, sex … It always seemed to be about forgetting deeper pains,” said Lewis. “I spent some of my life trying to forget my dad through these means, now that I’m a dad, it made me wonder: how (could) that cycle break, and what happens to all these memories we push away. What if the Goddess Lethe was real? What if she is who we answered to?”

Bliss #1 goes on sale on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.
