GalaxyCon 2025: Meeting Dave Wachter

GalaxyCon 2025: Meeting Dave Wachter

April 1, 2025 0 By Michael Stagno

Dave Wachter did an absolutely amazing job on a likeness of Kayvan Novak as Nandor, from “What We Do in the Shadows” on a Dracula #1 blank variant. Additionally, Novak was almost speechless when he saw it to sign it for me that he just replied with, “This is brilliant.” Wachter is one of those best-kept-secrets where, if you know, you know. He’s worth the money and just a pleasure to talk to.

Since Uncanny Valley is coming to an end, we asked him about it. He told us a great story about how he met his co-creator on the series, Tony Fleecs, at New York Comic Con back in the day. Both printed out their first comics and were pitching them to whoever would look at it. Years later, they linked up and we’re sure glad they did. But he has a new project coming up, publisher TBA, that he could unfortunately only hint to us that it’s about a soldier of fortune.

A Brief Rundown: Dave Wachter

Wachter is an American comic book artist known for his detailed and expressive artwork. He has worked on various titles for major publishers, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW Publishing), Godzilla: Cataclysm (IDW), and Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon (Marvel).

Wachter began his career in independent comics, gaining attention for his work on The Guns of Shadow Valley, a Western adventure webcomic that was nominated for an Eisner Award. His style, characterized by dynamic storytelling and strong inking, has made him a sought-after artist in the industry.

Over the years, he has contributed to various series, including Star Wars Adventures, Judge Dredd, and Batman: City of Madness. His work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been particularly praised, helping to define the modern visual identity of the franchise.

More recently, his and Tony Fleecs’ run on Uncanny Valley (Boom! Studios) is coming to an end.

Wachter continues to be an influential figure in comics, bringing his signature artistry to new and exciting projects.
