Harley Quinn Getting New DC Black Label Origin in HARLEEN
July 18, 2019An all-new spin on the origin of Harley Quinn is en route, via DC Comics‘ Black Label imprint and one-man show, Stjepan Sejic, in Harleen.
The three-issue limited series centers on Dr. Harleen Quinzel, who discovers a revolutionary cure for the ‘madness’ that has encumbered Gotham City, but she needs to prove it works. The criminal justice department and mental health establishments are all against her, so she must do something drastic to save the city from itself. Witness the young, brilliant doctor’s first steps in dooming herself, by testing it on herself, as well as getting involved with the Joker, but in turn, spawning a legendary supervillain in Harley Quinn.
“Harleen initially started in the way that all of my books start: as a series of character explorations. I do these small short strips and images, in which I kind of try to encapsulate what a character is really about because, for me, that’s the core of everything,” said Sejic. “The two main pillars of any story are the story narrative and the characters. As I said, Harleen started off as a series of explorations, which over time, took shape and they became an idea of a story; I wanted to tell this life story of Harley Quinn.”
Harleen #1 (of 3), as part of DC’s Black Label, comes out on Wednesday, Sep. 25, 2019.
