A new teenage romance story, ignited with superpowers, will take shape at Image/Skybound, when Heart Attack releases this holiday season.

The creative duo of Shawn Kittelsen and Eric Zawadzki will tell the story of both Charlie North, who is on the run from the cops, and Jill Kearney, who he crosses paths with. The world is starting to produce ‘variants’, which are people with unique powers and free of disease. Kearney and North are starting to unlock powers neither knew they had. The question becomes not how they will use their powers, but just how far they are willing to go to secure their relationship and keep each other safe.

“All the politics, fireworks and twists and turns are just the backdrop of a story about two people who find a very special connection with each other,” said Zawadzki. “What excites me about this comic is how it uses a sci-fi metaphor to convey that universal feeling of developing a crush on someone new. That feeling of being with that new person in your life is emotionally very powerful and I think we found a unique way of capturing it.”

Heart Attack #1 will drop in bookstores on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
