A Small-Town Klepto Joins a Government Recovery Agency in LOOT

October 18, 2019 Off By Michael Stagno

An upcoming series will follow a talented thief, who is recruited by a governmental recovery division, propelling her into a dangerous world of treasure hunting, via writers Don Handfield and Richard Rayner and artist K. Lynn Smith, per Scout Comics.

The series will follow Emily ‘Doe’ Jackson, an orphan and a serial kleptomaniac. She was adopted by Viola Jackson, a police officer who was responsible for repeatedly arresting her. Now, all grown up, Emily works for her newly-retired mom in a loss prevention big box superstore (by day) and turns to her passion (at night) in thieving treasures. When she cracks the code of a famous explorer’s journal that was leaked online, the Department of Homeland Security’s recovery division of stolen antiquities recruits her to help them find all the loot. She will now enter a thrilling global adventure, pinning her against international art thieves, hostile foreign governments and rival treasure hunters, all the while, learning that the real treasures aren’t artifacts, but rather, family and friends.

“Richard and I love ancient artifacts and the mysticism that surrounds them. Loot allows us to dig into the actual history surrounding those objects and explore our affection for the old adventure pulp magazines that pre-dated comic books, with a wonderful female protagonist at the center of the story,” Handfield said. “Richard and I have long been fans of K. Lynn Smith’s artwork and her ability to bring strong female characters to life – we are thrilled we get to work with her on this series.”
