A new series, Fire Power, is coming to Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment, from writer Robert Kirkman and artist Chris Samnee, which will combine ancient Chinese folklore and super abilities.

The series follows Owen Johnson, who journeys to China to learn about his birth parents, one which brings him to a mysterious Shaolin Temple. The students there study a timeless tradition in discovering the ability to both generate fire power and the art of throwing fire balls. The power, is the series goes on, will soon be needed to save the world. Johnson will be at the center of it all and could be the first person in 1,000 years to wield the power.

“Getting to create a whole new world with its own mythology and rules is always the highlight of my life. Getting to do that with Chris Samnee is definitely a high water mark in this dusty old career of mine,” said Kirkman. “With a massive cast of characters populating this sprawling globe-spanning epic, Chris has proven more than adept at handling anything I’ve thrown at him in the time we’ve been toiling away on this series in secret. Kung Fu, Fireballs, crazy action, Chris Samnee. What more could I say to get you excited about this book?”

Fire Power #1 is currently scheduled to release in May of 2020, but will debut as the Image/Skybound offering for Free Comic Book Day on May 2.
