Maggie Stiefvater Making DC Comics Debut in, SWAMP THING: TWIN BRANCHES

Alec Holland, aka Swamp Thing, had always had to deal with the persecution of man, but can he handle high school? We’ll certainly find out in the upcoming DC Comics young adult original graphic novel, Swamp Thing: Twin Branches.

From award-winning YA writer Maggie Stiefvater, who just might give John Green a run for his money, in conjunction with veteran comic artist Morgan Beem, comes a different spin on the life of Holland as Swamp Thing.

This OGN will center on a shy and quiet Holland, a bookworm, who would rather study flora and fauna than go out parting with his twin brother, Walker Holland. When the two brothers are sent to stay with their cousins in the swamp for the summer, they will find that there is more than gators lurking in the muck. Walker quickly makes a name for himself on the town scene, while Alec is hiding in the school’s lab experimenting. The book shapes up to be a coming-of-age tale about acceptance, family, brotherhood and friendship.

“We live in a world of increasing connectivity and increasing disconnect,” said Stiefvater. “It’s easier than ever to meet someone with shared interests, which makes it harder to realize that just because someone looks just like you. They may see the world in a completely different way. Nature and humanity, though, have always had this difficult and fascinating relationship, equal parts longing and logic and misunderstanding and projection, and I thought a reinvention of Swamp Thing would be an incredibly satisfying way to explore how hard, complex relationships are as we learn who we are and what we need.”

Swamp Thing: Twin Branches will hit shelves on October 13, 2020.
