LONELY RECEIVER to Tell a Different Kind of ‘Horrific’ Breakup Story

February 19, 2020 Off By Michael Stagno

An all-new, futuristic tech dystopia story about just how attached we’re becoming to our phones is coming to AfterShock Comics, via creators Zac Thompson and Jen Hickman in, Lonely Receiver.

The series will tell a the story of a scary breakup between a person and their … phone? That’s right, the book centers on a video producer, Cairin Vander, and her phone’s artificial intelligence, Rhion. When the A.I. she has been connected to for a decade suddenly disappears without warning, though following an intense argument, she becomes lost and descends into technological depravity and depression.

“I’m excited for this book to be released because it’s channeling my love for psychological thrillers and looking at horror with a neon-soaked lens,” Thompson proclaimed. “We’re asking tough questions about how we define ourselves in relationships and how we lose parts of ourselves to others. We’re also framing the horror around something incredibly relatable — a horrifying breakup. The type of super ugly breakup that makes you confront the disorienting disparity between the person you thought you were in the relationship and the person you are when you’re alone.”

Lonely Receiver #1 his currently slated to hit bookshelves on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.
