Boom! Studios Surprise Launches WYND #1, Ahead of Print Release
May 18, 2020A new Boom! Studios series, WYND, from James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas, garnered a surprise digital drop today, nearly a month before its print release, per an announcement from the publisher.
The upcoming series was initially announced as a collected trade, but the publisher saw a unique opportunity to spread it out across multiple issues in limited format. Each issue will include over 40 pages, more than double the standard individual comic book.
The story centers on a world where inherited magic is a punishable offense, which results in death. The main character, a young boy named Wynd, must keep his identity a secret in his home of Pipetown. When secret forces begin to threaten him, he is forced to leave his home and set out on a dangerous mission, one which will pin him at the heart of a royal conspiracy.
“I’ve always been an impatient person. I think I might have willed this into existence last week, looking over the final pages of what was the WYND original graphic novel, wishing that people didn’t have to wait until November to see them,” said James Tynion IV. “WYND is my dream project, the one that I’ve been working on intermittently since I was in High School. Seeing it come to life with Michael’s art has been one of the greatest pleasures of the last year, and the idea that we’re going to get to bring it into the world in glorious oversized issues starting this summer is deeply exciting to me. We’re really proud of this one.”
Wynd #1 is available now, digitally, while print copies are currently slated to go on sale on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
