SBIFF to Honor Martin Scorsese with Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence
August 26, 2019 Off By Michael StagnoFilmmaker Martin Scorsese will be honored in November at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival with the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film.
This is an accolade long overdue for Scorsese, who has given us some of the most-memorable films for more than 40 years, including Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Scorsese has just completed The Irishman, which hits Netflix on November 27, and is currently in pre-production on both Killers of the Flower Moon and Roosevelt.
Since 2006, the annual Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film has been given to those that encompass a lifelong contributor to cinema through their work on all sides of the camera. Scorsese will be just the fourth director to garner the accolade. Last year’s recipient was Hugh Jackman.
The 14th annual Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film will be presented to Scorsese on November 14, 2019, while the 35th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival will run January, 15-25, 2020.
