JOKER Claims Golden Lion Award at Venice International Film Festival
September 7, 2019The upcoming villain origin film, Joker, via director Todd Phillips and starring Jaoquin Phoenix, earned the top prize at the 76th annual Venice International Film Festival.
Phillips’ Joker, which releases nationwide on October 4, earned the Gold Lion Award from the VIFF. The film is a standalone story for the iconic DC Comics villain, Arthur Fleck, aka The Joker.
Actor and director Roman Polanski also garnered recognition, taking home the runner-up accolade, Silver Lion Award, for his controversial film, An Officer and a Spy, about a French captain sentenced to life at Devil’s Island for treason in 1894.
