The international distribution rights to the upcoming thriller, based on a true viral twitter sensation, Zola, has been acquired by Sony Pictures, per news out of the Sundance Film Festival.

The film, written and directed by Janicza Bravo, chronicles the 144 tweets posted by A’ziah King in October of 2015 about her cross-country road trip. The story centers on Zola (Taylour Paige), who meets Stefani (Riley Keough), as the two bond over pole dancing. When Stefani invites Zola on the trip, the goal is to make as much money as possible dancing in Florida strip clubs. The trip turns out to be the craziest and unexpected trip of their lives.

Nicholas Braugh and Colman Domingo round out the rest of the core cast.

The A24 film will distribute in all territories with exception to North America, Japan and China. It has eyes set for a summer, 2020, release.
