Gaming Companies Announce Climate-Friendly Changes are Imminent
September 24, 2019 Off By Michael StagnoWhether you will admit it or not, something needs to change and we need to opt for ‘greener’ initiatives, because the Earth is suffering and the result doesn’t spell well for its inhabitants.
That said, gaming companies, Xbox, Playstation and the streaming platform, Twitch, among others, all came together in addressing the United Nations recently with upcoming efforts to help counter the climate crisis.
The promises made include reducing plastic packaging, making devices more energy-efficient and incorporating more environmental themes into its IPs, which will hopefully help motivate gamers to ‘go green’ as well.
“I believe games and gamers can be a force for social change and would love to see our global community unite to help our planet to survive and thrive,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan.
The initiative, which the companies are calling the, ‘Playing for the Planet’ pledge, will include such efforts as, incorporating material into games in promoting restoration and reforestation, making consoles that are carbon-neutral, offset carbon emissions generated by devices, spreading the word of sustainability through its numerous platforms, educating and inspiring behaviors of change and helping finance climate research.
