University of Texas at Austin Appoints Matthew McConaughey as Professor

The Matthew McConaughey, in recognition of his teaching and mentoring work at the University of Texas at Austin, has been named a professor of practice for the upcoming fall 2019 semester.

The actor will teach a ‘Script to Screen’ class as part of the Radio-Television-Film initiative at the UT Moody College of Communication. He has served the department since 2015, where he began as a visiting instructor and, in conjunction with director Scott Rice, helped develop the course curriculum, which also dishes on a behind-the-scenes view of film production.

The Academy Award, Oscar and Golden Globe winner earned a film degree from UT Austin in 1993. He has nearly 70 credits as an actor, having starred in standout films like, A Time to Kill, Sahara, The Lincoln Lawyer, Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf of Wall Street. He also starred in two films in 2019, including the surprise thriller, Serenity, and has two upcoming projects over the next two years, The Gentleman (2020) and Sing 2 (2021).
