The powers-that-be have announced that the film adaptation of the popular video game series, Mortal Kombat, is now currently in filming.

The film, which will be based on the game, pins summoned fighters from all over the world as they fight to the death, via brutal fatalities, for supreme bragging rights and, ultimately, the fate of the planet.

Initially, the game was adapted as a feature film with 1995’s Mortal Kombat and, much to the dismay of critics, garnered a sequel two years later, with Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, both of which centered on the Liu Kang character, played by Robin Shou.

As it stands, there is still so much unknown about the upcoming reboot, but some of the cast has been announced in: Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Josh Lawson (Kano), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Sisi Stringer (Mileena) and Chin Han (Shang Tsung).

Mortal Kombat is currently scheduled to come out in theaters on March 5, 2021.
