4F4: The (Other) Horror Icons Who Are Set to Leave Their Marks on Halloween
October 10, 2019The second edition of Galaxtic Pop‘s Four-For-Four (4F4) series has arrived and, as part of Halloween, we have decided to spotlight the upcoming holiday killers we think will become staples, annually. You know, the ones not named, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers or Leatherface.
Again, as a refresher, in this series, we will be highlighting four films, which all have four things in common, but with an underlying theme, they all deserve your attention!
That said, all four of these films are horror slashers (#1), none of the killers in each film uses a firearm as their primary weapon (#2), each character stalks and dismembers their victims in the most-gory ways (#3) and each of these films could spawn the next, great horror franchises (#4)!
1.) Terrifier – Art the Clown (2013 – 2020)
This film is about a clown that stalks and terrorizes three women on Halloween night, as well as killing all who stand in his way. This film has actually already been greenlit for a sequel as well, in 2020, with Terrifier 2. However, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) actually first-appeared in a Halloween anthology of short films, All Hallows Eve, in 2013, and popped back up in the sequel to that, All Hallows Eve 2 (2015). Regardless of the films the maniacal clown has appeared in, the mission is the same, to psychologically break down the protagonists and then kill them, in the most-horrific ways.
2.) Hatchet – Victor Crowley (2006 – 2017)
This film has now turned into a franchise, which launched in 2006. This film tells the story of Victor Crowley, played by horror icon Kane Hodder, who is born horribly-disfigured, after being cursed, following a husband’s infidelity with their maid. Years later, a group of tourists on a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness and, their evening of fun and spooks, turns into a horrific nightmare. Also included in the series: Hatchet 2 (2010), Hatchet III (2013) and the fourth installment, 2017’s Victor Crowley.
3.) Trick – Patrick Weaver (2019)
This film actually drops on October 18 on VOD, but we went to a pre-screening, so we can tell you that it is legit! The premise is simple, a no-nonsense detective tries to track down a serial killer named Patrick Weaver, aka Trick, played by Thom Niemann, who is terrorizes a small town, each-and-every Halloween, following the murder of his entire class, which launched his serial killing career. We told you about this film a few weeks ago. Check out our story about it, HERE.
4.) Bloodline – Evan Cole (2018)
This might just be the most-underrated film in the group. Seann William Scott, as Evan Cole, is definitely the most-humanized serial killer of the group, but don’t let that take away from just how psychotic his character is. The story centers on a high school guidance counselor, Evan, who values family above all else, and anyone who gets between him, his wife and newborn son learns that the hard way. But when it comes to violent tendencies, it seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. We saw this one at Popcorn Frights Film Fest this year and it was not only received well by fans in attendance, but garnered top laurels by the critics as well.
What do you think, are you fan of these second-tier horror characters as well? Did you check out their films after reading this post? What characters other than these four (or the Big 4) would you have included? Let us know in the comments.
