The first trailer for Dolittle has been released by Universal, which stars Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Dolittle, a veterinarian with the ability to talk to animals.

The film is based on the series of novels, The Story of Doctor Dolittle, by Hugh Lofting, about a man who loves animals and allows many different species to live among him in his home and talks with them.

The story sets on Dr. John Dolittle (Downey Jr.), a famed doctor and vet of Queen Victoria’s England, who hermits himself away behind the high walls of his Manor with only his exotic animals for company, for seven years following his wife’s death. But when the young Queen Victoria (Jessie Buckley) falls gravely ill, he is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures. He is joined by a self-appointed apprentice, Tommy Stubbins (Harry Collett), and a few trusted animal friends, a gorilla (voiced by Rami Malek), duck (Octavia Spencer), ostrich (Kumail Nanjiani), polar bear (John Cena) and parrot (Emma Thompson).

The Stephen Gaghan directed-film also features stars (and voices), among others, such as, Tom Holland, Marion Cotillard, Michael Sheen, Selena Gomez and Antonio Banderas.

Keep an eye out for Dolittle to land in theaters on Jan. 17, 2020.
