Ana de la Reguera Selected as Lead in Upcoming THE PURGE Sequel
October 24, 2019The upcoming fifth film in The Purge franchise has found its lead in Mexican actor Ana de la Reguera, per a joint announcement from Blumhouse, Universal Pictures and Platinum Dunes.
The franchise, set in an America that features an annual holiday where all crime, including murder, is legal, has generated over $450 million, worldwide, on a combined budget of just $35 million. So, another sequel just makes sense. The upcoming untitled fifth sequel appears to be wrapping up the series in bringing it full circle. Though, based on the financials, that remains to be seen.
The Purge launched the franchise in 2013 and was followed by The Purge: Anarchy (2014), The Purge: Election Year (2016) and, the prequel, The First Purge (2018).
For de la Reguera, who is a lead on both Prime Video‘s Goliath and the STARZ series, Power, she just wrapped on Zack Snyder‘s Army of the Dead, as her career continues to ascend.
No news yet on a supporting cast, but Universal has set a theatrical release date for July 10, 2020. Shooting begins this November. The Purge television series, which airs on USA Network, just wrapped its second season, with eyes set for a third in 2020 as well.
