BARNEY Coming to the Big Screen with Daniel Kaluuya Attached
October 20, 2019 Off By Michael StagnoFalling in line with other previously-announced live-action adaptations of Mattel toys like, Barbie and Hot Wheels, the big purple dinosaur, Barney, has now also landed its own film, via Daniel Kaluuya, who will produce.
The film will be based on the children’s show, Barney & Friends, which ran for 17 years, from 1992 – 2009, lasting 248 episodes. The show followed the purple Tyrannosaurus Rex, with fellow dino-friends, BJ (Protoceratops), Riff (Hadrosaurus) and Baby Bop (Triceratops), who all embraced children to discover, pretend and seek their passions on the wings of imagination, through numerous skits and songs.
“Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood,” said Kaluuya. “We’re excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of, ‘I love you, you love me’, can stand the test of time.”
