The popular zombie-fighting video game franchise, The House of the Dead, is getting a live-action relaunch, as is a sequel, The House of the Dead 2, via Forever Entertainment and Sega Entertainment, though a platform remains to be announced.

The video game was initially adapted as a live-action, full-length feature film with 2003’s House of the Dead. The film told the story of a group of college students which travels to a mysterious island to attend a rave, which is soon crashed by bloodthirsty zombies. The sequel was a straight-to-TV effort, which dropped in 2005, House of the Dead 2, sees a virus outbreak at a university, which is turning students and faculty into zombies. After 29 days, a team of scientists and soldiers are sent in to deal with the problem.

The video game franchise, which took off with The House of the Dead (1996), tells the story of a pair of government agents that are called upon to investigate disappearances at an abandoned mansion, only to be confronted by an army of genetically-engineered zombies. The IP has churned out five sequels: The House of the Dead 2 (1999), The House of the Dead III (2002) and The House of the Dead 4 (2005), The House of the Dead: Overkill (2009) and The House of the Dead: Scarlett Dawn (2018).

No news yet on when production begins, let alone a platform for both films, but as it currently stands, The House of the Dead is slated for a 2020 launch, while the sequel, The House of the Dead 2, is likely follow around 2021-22.
