The upcoming film adaptation of a Ben Macintyre World War II novel has tabbed both Kelly Macdonald and Colin Firth to co-star in the project, which has also enlisted John Madden to direct.

The film is based on Macintyre’s Operation Mincemeat: How a Dead Man and a Bizarre Plan Fooled the Nazis and Assured an Allied Victory. It takes place in 1943 as the Allies have devised an all-out assault on a Nazi-dominated Europe. It follows two brilliant intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley, who both come up with an inspired and seemingly improbable disinformation strategy to help the cause. MacDonald’s role has yet to be announced.

MacDonald garnered fame for her work as Margaret on the HBO series, Boardwalk Empire. Firth just wrapped on two films, 1917, a World War I mission film, and The Secret Garden, about a magical garden discovered by a young girl.
