Paul Dano Cast in Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN as the Riddler

So, those previous reports that Jonah Hill was being eyed to play the Riddler, didn’t manifest. Instead, in a quick turnaround, Paul Dano will be the new Edward Nygma (or Nashton) in Matt Reeves‘ The Batman.

The upcoming film, which will star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, will follow the story of Batman: The Long Halloween, a graphic novel of 13-collected issues where Batman is trying to find a serial killer who only strikes on holidays.

Dano will play the role of Riddler, a genius with an extreme amount of intelligence, who lures his foes into seemingly impossible scenarios, but always gives you a chance to get out, if you get the answer correct. The iconic role was first portrayed in a live-action medium in the 1966-67 television series, Batman, by Frank Gorshin, but has since been portrayed by Jim Carrey, in Batman Forever and, masterfully, by Cory Michael Smith, in the series, Gotham.

Production on The Batman is expected to begin in early 2020. The film is currently tabbed to drop in theaters on June 25, 2021.
