Wes Craven’s Estate Taking Pitches for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

We’ve been down this road before. All the 80s horror baddies are getting reboots (again). Now, per the announcement that the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise is for sale by the Wes Craven estate, we can throw Freddy Krueger (back) into the growing pot that includes horror icons like, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Ghostface and Pinhead, among others.

The coming years are going to be important for horror fans with reboots or sequels coming for Halloween, Evil Dead, Hellraiser, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Candyman, Scream, Friday the 13th and, per this news, an eventual A Nightmare on Elm Street as well. Needless to say, these have to be done right.

Let’s be honest with ourselves here. Can anyone truly fill the shoes of Robert Englund‘s take on Krueger? Unlikely. Jackie Earle Haley tried in 2010, per the reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, but diehard fans of the series did not receive it well.

The Craven estate will continue to listen on pitches for the rights to both the franchise and its star, Freddy, but a rumor, per Bloody Disgusting, suggests it is seeking to land feature films, with plans of extending it to a streaming series as well, possibly at HBO Max!

We’ll have to wait to see who wins this lottery, but whoever wins the rights, needs to do some homework and deliver for both past- and new fans.
