The upcoming limited series adaptation of a memoir by Anuradha Bhagwati has landed its lead in Freida Pinto.

The film, based on Bhagwati’s novel, Unbecoming: A Story of Disobedience, will tell the story of her journey, from being raised as the daughter of immigrants, through her service as a Marine and in becoming an activist for historic policy reform.

Bhagwati opted out of grad school to join the military and, as a bisexual woman of color, faced sexual violent events, misogyny and racism, prompting her, post-service, to launch the Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN), which has helped champion sexual violence in the military and repeal the ban on women in combat.

Pinto will both star as Bhagwati and produce the limited series. No production date has been set and the project also has yet to assign writers.

Pinto currently has three projects in post-production and all are slated for 2020 releases in, Love. Wedding. Repeat, Hillbilly Elegy and Needle in a Timestack.
