Filmmaker Eli Roth has enlisted Cate Blanchett as the lead in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the fan-favorite video game franchise, Borderlands.

The film will be based on the Borderlands franchise, which comes from 2K Studios, an extension of Take-Two Interactive. The fan-favorite first-person shooter is set on the fictional abandoned planet of Pandora, where numerous militias search for a mysterious relic, which promises power and wealth. Blanchett will presumably assume the role of Lilith, a siren with magical skills in thievery.

This film reunites both Roth and Blanchett, as they also worked together on The House with a Clock in its Walls (2018).

Currently a series regular on both Mrs. America and Stateless, Blanchett also will be taking on three forthcoming silver screen gigs in, Armageddon Time, Don’t Look Up and Nightmare Alley.

Roth, best known for his work in horror, specifically with Hostel and Hostel: Part II, produced the breakout hit, Haunt, in 2019. Coming up for the director and producer, he will executive produce Lake Mead, a film about a journalism student, investigating the water levels of the lake, who mysteriously goes missing.

Borderlands 3 is available now on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC and Stadia platforms.
