Margot Robbie Selected to Star in Standalone PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Film
June 27, 2020 Off By Michael StagnoA forthcoming addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will see Margot Robbie at the forefront and reunited with writer Christina Hodson.
The upcoming film is presumed to serve as an installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean universe, but rather will be an original story without Captain Jack Sparrow at the epicenter, while including all-new characters. The project is also expected to be separate from the recently-announced reboot of the franchise as well.
The original producer of the long-running franchise, Jerry Bruckheimer, is expected to helm the film, while Hodson is penning the script and Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin are adapting the screenplay.
The Pirates of the Caribbean series has proven quite profitable for Walt Disney, having garnered a staggering $4.5 billion across all five of its films.
Robbie, who worked with Hodson on Birds of Prey in 2020, has numerous big-time projects in the works, including her ongoing run as Harley Quinn in 2021’s The Suicide Squad and 2022’s Gotham City Sirens and a still-untitled Quinn and Joker team-up film. She will also bring-to-life Barbie, while playing as the titular character.
Hodson has been racking up script duties for widely-popular blockbusters as of late, including 2018’s Transformers reprise in Bumblebee. She is currently penning pages for two DC Comics superhero adaptations in both The Flash and Batgirl, both due at some point in 2022.
