Free Streaming TV App LOCAST Being Sued by ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC
July 31, 2019The broadcast television streaming app, Locast, has its back up against the wall as ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC are all suing the free service.
The non-profit streaming app is currently available in 13 states and is being used in just shy of 35 million homes, which accounts for 31% of the US market.
The ‘Big 4’ filed a lawsuit in stating that the free service is in violation of copyright law by transmitting each of their respective shows over-the-air to its customers. Because Locast does not charge for access, though does encourage users to donate, it is being questioned whether it is law compliant. Its defense will rest on the ability to re-transmit as a non-profit.
