SDCC 2019: Marvel Unveils MCU Phase Four
July 26, 2019Fresh off the completion of another awesome San Diego Comic Con, we now know the slate for the post-original Avengers phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will make way for all-new heroes and villains.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige proclaimed at SDCC that, “The Infinity War saga is complete!”, so that begs the question, what’s next? Could we see the next phase setup a confrontation between a new Avengers squad and the likes of baddies such as, Grim Reaper, The Beyonder, M.O.D.O.K., Onslaught, the Deviants or even Galactus? Time will tell. That said, check out the upcoming list of films and shows below!
FILMS
Black Widow (2020)
It’s now clear that this film will take place shortly after Captain America: Civil War, rendering the assassin’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, irrelevant. The film will tab her against Taskmaster.
The Eternals (2020)
This galactic team of immortals has enlisted a laundry list of A-List talent, including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Lauren Ridloff, Kumail Nanjiani, Bryan Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, Don Lee and Selma Hayek. The film should not only build an even bigger universe, but also provide a history lesson on Marvel as well.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
The first Asian leading man in MCU history will star Simu Liu as Shang-Chi and will pin him up against the (real) Mandarin. The Ten Rings is a criminal organization bent on the destruction of world peace, by any means necessary.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2021)
It is widely speculated that this film will not only be the first horror film in the MCU, but also make way for both mutants, specifically the X-Men, but also that of the Fantastic Four.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2021)
This panel sent shockwaves across nerd radars when it was revealed Natalie Portman would be returning as Jane Foster, but will also hoist the hammer as Thor, herself. Valkyrie will also be in the film and, as the king of Asgard, is in search of her queen.
STREAMING SERIES
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2020)
Well, we know that Falcon is now the new Captain America, equipped with wings and a shield! Winter Soldier, new arm intact, will serve as the right-hand man. This will be one of the first MCU series to stream exclusively on Disney+.
WandaVision (2021)
This series will take place post-Endgame and will star Scarlett Witch, while telling the story as she copes with having lost Vision in the Infinity War.
Loki (2021)
One of the sneakiest characters in the MCU, Loki could be anywhere. He died in Infinity War, but warped out of Endgame. Stay tuned on this one.
What If …? (2021)
This series will star Jeffrey Wright as the all-seeing Watcher and will collect a bevy of Marvel talent, will dive into multiple scenarios, all while telling the stories of each character from many different perspectives.
Hawkeye (2021)
A new Hawkeye is en route, as this series will highlight a changing of the guard, seeing father pass the torch to his daughter, Kate Bishop.
