HBO Takes the Crown with Most Wins at 71st EMMY AWARDS
September 23, 2019 Off By Michael StagnoThe 71st installment of the Emmy Awards has come-and-gone, but not before seeing premium cable supersede the streaming platform to emerge as king.
Entering the show, HBO had a record-breaking 137 nominations, powered by 32, alone, by Game of Thrones, the most of any other show.
Results saw HBO having pulled in a total of 34 awards, while Netflix, having garnered 27 wins, finished second. Rounding out the Top 3 was Prime Video, with 15.
The theme of the night, upsets. Big ups to the underdogs, including, but not limited to:
Outstanding Drama Series went to GoT, while Outstanding Comedy Series was earned by Amazon‘s Fleabag. In fact, Phoebe Waller-Bridge won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series as well, while Bill Hader, for his work on Barry, garnered Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Billy Porter (Pose) earned Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer was named Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series went to Jason Bateman, for Ozark.
