In what he has dubbed as ‘a dream come true’, cartoonist Jeff Smith will (finally) have his original graphic novel series, Bone, adapted as an animated series, as announced by Netflix, which has secured the rights.

The best-selling, independently-published original series follows the iconic Bone cousins as they navigate through an uncharted desert and mysterious valley, both filled with wonderful and terrifying creatures.

“I’ve waited a long time for this. Fans of the books know that the story develops chapter-by-chapter and book-by-book. An animated series is exactly the way to do this,” said Smith. “The team at Netflix understands Bone and is committed to doing something special – this is good news for kids and cartoon-lovers all over the world!”

The graphic novel has been published in over 30 countries, having sold over eight million copies in the US, alone. The book is the winner of more than 40 publishing awards, both nationally and internationally, and was also anointed as one of TIME Magazine‘s, ’10 Best Graphic Novels of All-Time’.
