Hulu Reviving ANIMANIACS with Original Voice Cast for New Animated Series

October 8, 2019 Off By Michael Stagno

The Animaniacs are coming back … This time on Hulu, which is relaunching the series, but is also returning the original voice cast as well.

The initial animated series, Animaniacs, via creator Tom Ruegger, ran for 99 episodes from 1993-98. The show followed three rejected Warner Bros. Studios characters who were considered too ‘zany’ for use, Wakko (Jess Harnell), Yakko (Rob Paulsen) and Dot (Tres MacNeille). The show also featured skits, via other fan-favorite characters, Pinky and the Brain, two bumbling lab mice bent on world domination, Rita and Runt, a cat and dog team which continuously face perilous situations, and The Goodfeathers, an NYC-based mob of Pigeons, highlighted by Bobby, Pesto and Squit.

The series was adapted as an animated feature film as well, in 1999, Animaniacs: Wakko’s Wish, which returned all original voice actors.

The popularity of the show is staggering. There have not only been spinoffs with the secondary characters on the series, but numerous video game adaptations, over five different gaming consoles and platforms, spanning decades, including: Animaniacs on the SNES and Sega Genesis (1994), Animaniacs: Ten Pin Alley on Playstation (1998), Animaniacs: Splat Ball on PC (1999) and Animaniacs: The Great Edgar Hunt on PS2 (2005).

As part of the deal, the animated feature film, as well as the entire 1990s series catalogue will transfer over to Hulu as well.

Keep an eye out for Animaniacs to start streaming on Sept. 14, 2020, on Hulu.
