The fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise is set to land on Netflix, after the streaming giant purchased the rights from Paramount.

The upcoming sequel will return Eddie Murphy in reprising his role as Det. Axel Foley, while Jerry Bruckheimer will produce it.

The franchise follows Foley, a Detroit-based detective, who pursues a murder investigation across the country, finding himself in a very different culture in Beverly Hills, Calif., alongside detectives Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Taggart (John Ashton). The 1984 film, along with 1987’s Beverly Hills Cop II and 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III have earned a total of $735.5 million, worldwide. Spoiler – He goes back to Cali two more times!

In 2013, a Beverly Hills Cop TV movie dropped, which starred Brandon T. Jackson as Aaron Foley, the son of Axel (Murphy), who follows his father’s lead in going to Beverly Hills on a case as well.

Murphy is no stranger to Netflix, having released the original film, Dolemite is My Name, this year and is currently in ongoing conversation about a new comedy special there as well. He is also set to star in another sequel to one of his films, Coming 2 America.

Bruckheimer is currently in post-production on numerous high-profile projects, including, but not limited to, Bad Boys for Life and Top Gun: Maverick, both slated for 2020 releases. He has also been tied to an upcoming untitled Pirates of the Caribbean sequel as well as in continuing the story for National Treasure 3.

No news yet on when production begins on BHC4, but stay tuned!
