THE LEGEND OF COCAINE ISLAND Tabs Will Ferrell to Star

A scripted remake adaptation of the documentary The Legend of Cocaine Island is en route at Netflix and has tabbed Will Ferrell as its lead.

The doc centers on a small-business owner and family man who comes across a buried stash of cocaine, worth more than $2 million, hidden in the Caribbean. Shortly thereafter, he hatches a plan to retrieve the money, utilizing fellow misfits, with trouble not far behind.

Peter Steinfeld will pen the script, while Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and David Permut, will all produce the film.

Ferrell appeared in Between Two Ferns: The Movie this year and has quite a few projects due out next year, including A Christmas Carol, Downhill and Eurovision.

The Legend of Cocaine Island is slated to debut on Netflix in late-2020.
