Netflix Lands BALL AND CHAIN, Starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt
May 16, 2020Another indie comic book adaptation is coming to Netflix in Ball and Chain, which will star both Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Emily Blunt, from scribe Emily V. Gordon.
The film will be loosely based on the 1999 Wildstorm/Homage Comics’ limited series, Ball and Chain, from creators Scott Lobdell and Alé Garza. It tells the story of a super-powered couple, Edgar and Mallory Bulson, whose marriage is on the rocks. When the two decide to call it quits, a meteor of extraterrestrial energy strikes, giving them super powers. The kicker, the two have to be together in order for their newfound powers to work.
Johnson has two big comic book adaptations coming up in which he will star as the respective titular characters, Black Adam and Doc Savage. He will also once again battle a tectonic plate-shifting natural disaster in San Andreas 2, which was recently announced.
Having already starred in 2020’s A Quite Place: Part II, Blunt is gearing up to also appear in the follow-up to 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow in, Live Die Repeat and Repeat.
The two are also set to star together in Disney‘s Jungle Cruise, which is currently slated for a theatrical release of July 30, 2021.
Gordon is best-known for having written the breakout The Big Sick (2017). She also wrote the upcoming television series, Little America, a series which has adapted individual immigrant stories from Epic Magazine.
