A partnership between CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger are expanding the universe of Cyberpunk 2077 via an anime series at Netflix titled, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

The 10-episode pilot season will serve as a standalone story set in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077. It will follow a street kid, who lives in a tech-heavy and body mod-obsessed futuristic city, is fighting to survive. He becomes an edgerunner, a mercenary outlaw, also known as a cyberpunk, risking everything, but necessary, in order to stay alive.

Hiroyuki Imaishi will serve as director of the series, while the screenplay will be written by both Yoshiki Usa and Masahiko Otsuka. The original score will be composed by Akira Yamaoka and Yoh Yoshinari will spearhead character designs.

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series is currently expected to launch in 2022, exclusively on Netflix.

The announcement comes on the heels of a wave of news for Cyberpunk 2077, which releases on Nov. 19, 2020. The franchise will see The World of Cyberpunk 2077 book drop on July 28, which will introduce gamers to the inhabitants of Night City, as well as a new limited comic book series at Dark Horse, Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team, which goes on sale on Sep. 9. The line of McFarlane Toys action figures for the game are available now.
