Showrunners David E. Kelley and Jack Bender are developing a limited television series based on the Stephen King book, The Institute.

The series begins with the gruesome murder of Luke Ellis’s parents and his kidnapping. He wakes up in The Institute, in a room modeled after his own, but with no windows, in a facility with other children with special talents, like telekinesis and telepathy. There are two sides to the class, The Front Half, where students shine, and The Back Half, where you check-in, but do not check-out. Director Sigsby and her staff are ruthless and dedicated in extracting from the children, their extraordinary gifts. As more children begin to disappear, one will challenge the notion that no one has ever escaped.

“I am thrilled to be working with Spyglass Media and couldn’t be more excited that we’ll be starting with Stephen King’s extraordinary new book, The Institute,” said Bender. “Continuing to work with David Kelley only adds to the brilliance I am surrounded by.”
