A new short film per Xfinity, in conjunction with Comcast and NBCUniversal, has reunited one of the most-famous aliens in cinematic history and his young Earthling friend, for the holidays, A Holiday Reunion.

The short begins, as 37 years have passed, E.T. returns to visit his friend, Elliott (Henry Thomas), for the holidays. During the visit, E.T. comes to learn that Elliott now has a family of his own and that technology has completely changed on Earth since his last visit.

“The audience is going to get everything they want out of a sequel without the messy bits that could destroy the beauty of the original and the special place it has in people’s minds and hearts,” stated Thomas.

The 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, told the story of a troubled child, who summoned the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to its home world, before the government can get to it. The film came courtesy of Steven Spielberg and also starred Drew Barrymore, Dee Wallace and Peter Coyote.

The 1982 film has grossed nearly $800 million at the worldwide box office.

You can currently catch a two-minute version that airs on television, but the above video is the complete four-minute film, which will also run in select theaters as a pre-film short as well.
