The toy doll that has been terrorizing audiences for 30 years is now getting its own television show at SyFy, as a Child’s Play series, Chucky, has received a straight-to-series order from NBCUniversal.

The upcoming TV series will serve as a direct sequel to all seven films in the series, Child’s Play (1988), Child’s Play 2 (1990), Child’s Play 3 (1991), Bride of Chucky (1998), Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017).

The films center on a criminal and murderer, Charles Lee Ray, who practices the occult and places his soul in a Good Guys doll. While navigating the world as a plastic toy, he seeks to install his soul back into a living body, by way of manipulating children to become his sacrifice.

The upcoming Chucky series will take place in a suburban American town where the killer doll is unearthed at a yard sale. Chaos ensues when a series of murders start to expose numerous town secrets and hypocrisies, while the series will also dig deeper into the doll’s untold origins as well.

The original 1988 installment, which starred Catherine Hicks, was also rebooted with 2019’s Child’s Play, which starred Aubrey Plaza, but there’s no news yet as to whether it will become a new cinematic Chucky universe.

Filming on the bound-for-SyFy television show will begin in mid- to late 2020. Stay tuned to Galaxtic Pop for casting and production updates!
