An untitled reenactment series, per Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television, is en route at Fox and will be based on 1985’s The Goonies.

The series will center on Stella Cooper who, after failing to make it in New York and also carrying a heavy secret, returns home to her distressed automotive hometown to serve as a substitute teacher. She soon finds inspiration and hope in three of her students, who are pursuing a collective dream as filmmakers. The group sets out to ambitiously remake, The Goonies, shot-for-shot. Over the course of the season, the students will inspire a desperate town via the power of cinema and storytelling.

The Goonies, spearheaded by Steven Spielberg, Donner and Chris Columbus, starred Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Ke Huy Quan, Josh Brolin, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton and, as the Fratellis, Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi, Joe Pantoliano and, John Matuszak, who played Sloth. The film followed a group of young misfits, the self-anointed The Goonies, who discover an ancient map and set out on a quest to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure with hopes of saving their homes.

Mottola is best known for having directed Superbad and Adventureland, while Watson is currently the scribe and creator of The Bold Type on Freeform, which is in its fourth season.
