The publishing of Spawn #301 has now cemented Todd McFarlane in uncharted territory in the comic book industry, earning him a Guinness World Record for his series that has spanned nearly three decades!

McFarlane now holds the GWR for the longest-running, creator-owned superhero comic book series of all-time in Spawn. The book was first published in 1992 and has sold well-over 1.7 million copies. The popularity of the series has shifted into not only a live-action film, but also numerous animated adaptations, in both film and television formats, as well as his own toyline, which has extended beyond the brand to include numerous fan-favorite mediums and pop-culture characters.

“Any record that is based on longevity, is made on the backs of dozens of people,” said McFarlane. “As much as I am proud to be receiving this award, I gratefully accept it on behalf of all those who helped me the past 27 years on this journey.”

McFarlane accepted his GWR award recently at a panel at New York Comic Con and stressed to fans that this is nowhere near the end for the character, as there is still much more story to tell in the future.

The fan-favorite creator also has a documentary coming to SyFy, which will air later in 2019, presumably in December, with McFarlane: A Documentary. Check out the trailer below.
