Novelist Myke Cole is launching his first-ever comic book series, in conjunction with artist Tony Akins, at Vault Comics, in a drama about the Ottoman Empire in, Hundred Wolves.

The series tells the story of a band of fierce warriors, a group feared among many across 17th-century Europe. Two of its retired members, Andrei and Oksana, are currently raising their young daughter. Unfortunately, retiring from the Ottoman Empire is easier said than done, as all sides prepare for war.

“The Siege of Vienna in 1683 is one of the most dramatic, visually arresting, and movie-ready stories in the history of warfare. It arguably decided the future of the European and Turkish worlds, both. And almost nobody has even heard of it,” Cole said. “I only discovered it by chance — being a historian, I chase these things — and was immediately electrified. It is such an amazing story, a heroic defense in the face of arguably hopeless odds and a stirring, last-minute rescue from an unexpected quarter. I wanted to tell it to the world.”

Hundred Wolves #1 arrives on shelves on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.
