New SHANG-CHI Limited Series to Explore Father/Son (and Siblings) Dynamic
March 12, 2020The greatest fighter Marvel Entertainment has is set to take center stage in a new miniseries, before the character makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in, Shang-Chi, via the creative team of Gene Luen Yang, who will serve as the scribe, and artists Dike Ruan and Jim Cheung.
The upcoming limited series will find Shang-Chi‘s fight for justice come full circle as he is opposed with his past. When he finds himself pulled back into the fold, no one will be prepared for what is unleashed. With a target on his back, after the revitalization of his father, Zheng Zhu‘s secret society, the balance of power will shift in an epic story of family, betrayal and succession.
“The basic idea that his father is a supervillain is still there,” Yang said in an interview with the The New York Times. “Zheng Zhu has been around a very long time. He has other kids besides Shang-Chi, so we’re going to explore some of those sibling relationships.”
Shang-Chi #1 (of 5/6) launches in June of 2020. Stay tuned for an official release date! The titular character will officially join the MCU when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings, which is currently filming, drops in theaters on Feb. 12, 2021.
