Writer Elliott Kalan, of The Daily Show and MST3K fame, along with artist Andrea Mutti, have crafted a slasher horror series about a serial killer who is painting the streets of NYC red in, Maniac of New York.

The forthcoming AfterShock Comics series tells the story of a seemingly unstoppable killer who is terrorizing the streets of New York City. No one can solve who is committing the crimes, so the police have given up and continue to allow the murderer to succeed.

It is a noted welcome change from working in show business to bringing it to life on the comic book pages for the comedy writer.

“The biggest difference is I never have to worry about the budget. Times Square on New Year’s Eve? Not a problem, we can shoot there. Get a whole subway train? Done, no permits necessary. And casting is a snap, because we can just invent whoever we need,” said Kalan. “I’ve been wanting to tell these stories for a very long time. I love New York in the way only a true New Yorker can — with a burning desire to see it fictionally destroyed. I’ve never felt previous horror stories really took advantage of the nightmare opportunities the city has to offer, so it’s been exciting to play with all that.”

Maniac of New York #1 is currently slated to debut in February of 2021.
