Spooky Empire (Orlando): 2020 Preview
April 29, 2020 Off By Haven HuthSummer is almost here and hopefully the COVID-19 pandemic is starting to fade, because it’s convention season and we want to geek out!
That said, if you have never been to a horror-specific convention then you have to swing by Spooky Empire. Genre aficionados of all things ‘spooky’ have been lurking around this con since 2003.
This year’s event will again take place at the Wyndam Orlando Resort. The newly-scheduled con is coming Aug. 14-16, 2020. Aside from meeting guests and creators, attendees can also participate in costume/cosplay contests, jam to live performances and kick back at some after parties as well.
So far, this year’s slate of celebrities include three from the cult fan-favorite, Re-Animator, in Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott and Barbara Crampton. Also expected on the docket are, Denis O’Hare, of American Horror Story fame, Danny Lloyd (The Shining), Richard Band, the composer to popular 80s films like Puppet Master, Ghoulies and Castle Freak, Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary) and the children of Doctor Sleep, Roger Dale Floyd and both Sadie and KK Heim.
Fans of the macabre can also attend the con in Tampa, which is currently still scheduled for Oct. 30 – Nov. 1, 2020, at the Tampa Convention Center.
Note: The Orlando event was supposed to take place in May of 2020, so some previously-confirmed guests have yet to announce if they are still attending.
