A live-action adaptation of the 1997 animated film, Hercules, is coming from Disney, in conjunction with the Russo Brothers and their production company, AGBO.

The project, which is in the early development stages, will be scripted by Dave Callaham. It will be based on the 1997 animated musical reimagining of the Hercules tale in which Hades kidnaps him and forces him to live among humans as a half-god. In order to garner a ‘right-of-passage’, he must successfully execute a series of missions to land a spot on Mount Olympus.

Callaham, who just completed Wonder Woman 1984, is also penning the script to the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, as well as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The brothers Russo, fresh off the success of the two-part Avengers: Infinity War Saga, are lined up for a laundry list of projects, including producing a live-action television series for both, Quantum and Woody, a Valiant Entertainment comic book, and for the popular RPG table-top card game, Magic: The Gathering.
