Popcorn Frights Announces ‘Pop-Up’ Summer Drive-In Horrorshow

May 21, 2020 Off By Michael Stagno

The best genre film festival in the region, Popcorn Frights, just got a whole lot better with the announcement of a drive-in horrorshow initiative of twin-billing premieres!

The automobile movie-viewing experience will take place at various drive-in theaters throughout South Florida. Attendees are encouraged to practice social distancing in sporting masks when going to concessions, as well as having wipes handy. The first event on the docket will include the state premieres of both Scare Package and The Mortuary Collection, two horror anthology films.

Scare Package is up first, at 8pm (ET). This horror miscellany serves as a bloody throwback to the VHS era. The film takes place at Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium, an old-school video rental store. As Chad and his employees throw around tales in illustrating the rules of the horror genre, things start to get a little spooky. The core ensemble cast includes: Jeremy King, Noah Segan, Baron Vaughn, Toni Trucks, Chelsey Grant, Chase Williamson, Zoe Graham, Dustin Rhodes and Jocelyn DeBoer.

Right around 11pm, get ready for the second installment in, The Mortuary Collection. The film stars Clancy Brown, Caitlin Custer, Christine Kilmer, Jacob Elordi, Ema Horvath and James Bachman. It centers on a young girl, seeking work in the ‘mortuary arts’, who comes across a secret room, peaking her curiosity, while also meeting the mortician, a towering man. He guides her through the collection, sharing with her four of the scariest stories ever told.

The first-ever Popcorn Frights Drive-In Horrorshow will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Mass District, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., while the sixth annual Popcorn Frights Film Fest, which was moved out of its usual August running, is tentatively slated for Oct. 1-4.
